DIRECTOR OF BANDS - LAKE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Franklin Piland (b. 1990, he/him) is an American Indian conductor of wind bands, an active music educator, and a composer of contemporary music. Piland serves on the faculty of Lake View High School in San Angelo, Texas as Director of Bands.
Franklin earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance (Winds and Percussion) from Eastern New Mexico University in 2013 and his Master of Music in Music Composition from The University of Texas at Austin in 2016. He has minors and special studies in music composition, music technology, and wind band conducting.
Piland remains active in many diverse facets of the music industry, particularly composition, education, and clinician work, and including performance, administration, production, rehearsing and directing, and individual and group musical coaching. Despite all of his numerous obligations and responsibilities, Franklin is a lover of tennis, painting, and Batman (though oddly enough he has yet to paint Batman playing tennis).
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BANDS - LAKE VIEW HIGH SCHOOL
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Omar A. Cordova earned both his M.M. in Conducting and his B.M. in Music Education at UTEP.
During his time at UTEP, Mr. Cordova performed with numerous ensembles, assisted with the Marching Miners and the UTEP Pep Band, and conducted the Concert Band. Outside of UTEP, he performed with the Paso Del Norte Big Band, the Gilbert & Sullivan Company of El Paso Summer Orchestra, the offstage trumpet section for the El Paso Winds, and local church groups. He also worked with several high school marching bands in the El Paso region.
Mr. Cordova marched with The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps from 2013 to 2015. During his time with The Academy, he performed in many locations around the United States, including the Super Bowl XLIX in Glendale, AZ. In his third and final year, he served as the trumpet section leader and was awarded the Most Outstanding Brass Member Award.
DIRECTOR OF BANDS - LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Allen Andrus is entering his tenth year of teaching. Andrus most recently taught at Glenn Middle School for two years. Before joining San Angelo ISD, he taught at Early ISD, Hillsboro, ISD, and Burnet CISD. During his time as a band director, Andrus has been awarded the UIL Sweepstakes award seven times with both high school and middle school ensembles, four 1st divisions in UIL Sight Reading, and has had dozens students qualify for the All-Region Band. During his time in Burnet, Andrus assisted the Esprit de Corps as they reached the UIL State Marching Band Contest twice, placing 3rd in 2020.
Andrus graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2014 and from Dallas Baptist University with a Master’s Degree in Christian Education in 2019. As a university student, Andrus was afforded the opportunity to perform in various capacities. Most notably, Andrus played alto saxophone and flute for Winds of Triumph, which was a featured group at the London Olympics in 2012.
Outside of teaching, Andrus is a serial hobbyist. He dabbles in many different activities, like fixing up his home, woodworking, and many things with the arts. Andrus enjoys board and video games, traveling as well. Most of all, he loves spending time with is wife, Mercedes and two children.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BANDS - LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL
DIRECTOR OF PERCUSSION
Destiny Flores (She/Her) is a 2018 graduate of Lake View High School. This will be Ms. Flores's first year of teaching, but not her first time working with our students. For the past 2 years, she has worked with both our drumline & front ensemble and completed her student teaching at Lincoln/Lake View as well. She has also worked with multiple area high schools since 2020, and has been a camp counselor at the Angelo State Summer Music Camp since 2022.
Ms. Flores has a Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification from Angelo State University. At Angelo State, Ms. Flores performed with multiple ensembles including the ASU Ram Band (in London and Rome), Percussion Ensemble, Big Band, Ram Horns, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Chorus, San Angelo Chorus, and Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.
Ms. Flores loves going fishing, painting, trying new restaurants in town, playing video games, and loves anything and everything to do with turtles! She has a dog named Chachi and pet tortoise named Truffles. Ms. Flores is excited to get started and begin her teaching career right back here at home in the Pride of the North Side!
COLORGUARD / WINTERGUARD INSTRUCTOR
This will be my 4th year with Lakeview High School Colorguard!
I am originally from Colorado City, Tx and a proud alumni of Colorado High School where I first started out as a member of their colorguard. After high school I continued my performance career with several different groups, including Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps, Undaunted Independent Winterguard, and Angelo State Universities Ram Band.
Before coming to Lakeview High School, my teaching experience included colorguard technician for Mortan Ranch High School and choreographer for Eldorado High School. In addition to my colorguard career, I hold a bachelor's degree from Angelo State University and am currently a Pre-K teacher at San Jacinto Elementary.
MARCHING TECH / FLUTE
Nikki Garcia is a class of 2019 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, Texas. She marched with the Mighty Rebel Band for three years before becoming a drum major. She is currently entering her third year as a music education major at ASU. Nikki is a member of the San Angelo Community Band. She looks forward to playing her flute every week. Nikki has been a member of the Angelo State Wind Ensemble for the past four consecutive semesters, and was the piccolo player for the ensemble most recently. She also is a member of the ASU Symphony Orchestra. Nikki and the ASU Ram Band. Previously, Nikki has had teaching experience with her alma mater working with the drum majors and marching blocks. Outside of working with the Lake View Band, she also works at a local funeral home, where she assists staff and families. In her free time, Nikki enjoys going to the lake, going to concerts of all types, playing with her family dog Gracie, and going back home to see her family. She also enjoys traveling, and is looking forward to marching in the New Year’s Day parade in Rome, January 2024.
MARCHING TECH / CLARINET
Stacy Flores is a junior Music Education Major from Angelo State University. She graduated from Merkel High School in May of 2022. Stacy participates in The ASU RamBand, Wind ensemble, Symphonic band, Community band, and Jazz band. Stacy has been a counselor for the ASU Summer Music Camp for two years in a row teaching Clarinet and Alto Saxophone. Although her primary instruments are Bass and Soprano Clarinet, she plays Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet, and Euphonium.
In high school, Stacy made All Region and All Area on Bass Clarinet her senior year. She did solo and ensemble on alto and tenor saxophone for three years, two of those years were rewarded with medals. Her last two years of high school, the Mighty Merkel Badger Band advanced to the area marching competitions, where they competed for a spot at state. Stacy was also the recipient of the John Philip Sousa award her senior year.
In her free time, Stacy loves to listen to music, read, draw, play video games, hang out with friends, and watch her fish and snail, Gouda and Sheldon. She is excited for this opportunity to grow her experience!!!
MARCHING TECH / SAXOPHONE
Carol Campbell is a 2022 graduate from Irion County ISD and is currently a junior music major at Angelo State University. Carol’s primary instruments are the alto and baritone saxophone, but secondarily play soprano, tenor, clarinet, and trumpet. In high school, Carol participated as a drum major for three years, qualified for the State Marching Contest 3 times with their band placing in the top 3 each time, was a 4x state Solo and Ensemble qualifier, an All-Area qualifier, and the John Phillip Sousa award recipient. They have participated in Ram Band, Wind Ensemble, Ram Horns, jazz band, symphonic band, and saxophone quartet during their time at ASU. They played baritone saxophone in the Wind Ensemble for their first three semesters, but recently participated as the lead alto and solo soprano saxophonist. They were featured as the soloist for the ASU Symphony Orchestra their freshman year on alto saxophone, and were recently featured as a soloist in the Wind Ensemble.
Carol was previously a marching band and saxophone tech at Junction ISD and was a substitute Band Director at Irion County. Carol teaches private saxophone and clarinet lessons between teaching gigs. They have taught saxophone and clarinet as a counselor the past two Summer Music Camps at ASU and are excited to work as a tech for the Lake View Band.
When Carol is not working as a musician, they enjoy video games, creative writing, reading, horror movies and baking! They also spend their free time with their two cats, Maka and Dobby, and their snake, Werther’s Originals.
MARCHING TECH / HIGH BRASS
Benjamin Martin is a 2021 graduate of Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas and is currently a senior music education major at Angelo State University. Ben’s areas of study are teaching, music, trumpet, french horn, and psychology. At ASU, he has participated in Wind Ensemble, Ram Band, Ram Horns, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Trumpet Ensemble.
Ben has been a marching band and trumpet tech at Junction ISD and has visited other schools in the area on teching trips. He has also been a ASU Summer Music Camp Counselor for three years now. He is very excited to work as a tech for the Lake View Band.
In his free time outside of music, Ben likes to play video games, tabletop games, listen to audiobooks and spend time with family and friends.
MARCHING TECH / LOW BRASS
Corey DeChaine is a Senior Music Education student at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX, and a proud alumni of Del Rio High School. At ASU, Corey has been involved with every large ensemble offered on and off campus such as the ASU Ram Band (where he currently finished his second year holding the position as a low brass section leader), ASU Wind Ensemble (where he previously served as principal euphonium), ASU Jazz Ensemble, ASU Symphonic Band (which as of Spring 2024 he serves as co-conductor alongside his peers in the private Conducting II studio under Dr. Johnathan Alvis), and the ASU Symphony Orchestra.
Off-campus, he has been seen performing with the San Angelo Community Band. Corey is also the President of the Mu Gamma chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Additionally, he has served as camp counselor for the ASU Summer Music Camp in the summers of 2022 and 2024. In the summer of 2023, Corey lived his dream touring with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps.
Outside of the music building, he enjoys playing The Legend of Zelda, brewing coffee at his barista job, and spending free time with his fiance.
MARCHING TECH / PERCUSSION
Greg Heitzenrater is a 2023 graduate of TLCA of San Angelo and is currently a sophomore music major at Angelo State University. Greg's main focuses are orchestral and rudimental percussion. He also studies various styles of the percussive world and their ethnic origins. As a student at Angelo State, he participates in the Wind Ensemble, Ram Band, Ram Horns, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Choir, and Percussion Ensemble.
Greg has worked as a marching band and percussion tech for San Saba, Reagan County, and as a counselor for the Angelo State Summer Music Camp for a year. And he is also very excited to work with the Pride of the North Side.
In his free time away from music, Greg likes to play video games, be with friends and family, watch sports, listen to Earth, Wind, and Fire, and practice
his WWE finishing moves.
MARCHING TECH / COLORGUARD
Kelsey La Croix is a 2023 graduate from Marion high school in Marion Tx. In her high school career, she marched colorguard all four years while being guard captain for three. Along side of marching colorguard, she also plays clarinet. Kelsey qualified for State solo and ensemble twice, All-Region band, and All-Area band.
Kelsey is currently studying Music Education as a sophomore at Angelo State University. She has been a member of the Angelo State Wind Ensemble for the past two semesters as a clarinet player, as well as the ASU symphonic band. She marches with the ASU Ram Band as a colorguard member. Kelsey has also helped teach guard as a counselor for the ASU 2024 Summer Music Camp.
In her free time, Kelsey loves to read, bake, binge TV shows, and spend time with her friends and family and her dog Apollo.
